Following are excerpts of activities reported by the Jefferson police department:
Monday, Feb. 29: At 8:09 am a complainant reported stolen blankets from a dryer at the laundromat. At 10:17 am Kum and Go staff reported a male had been in the business for several hours that morning and was harassing a store clerk. An investigation was started. At 1:10 pm a JPD officer assisted the Greene County sheriff’s office in executing a search warrant at 705 E. Main St in Grand Junction. At 2:04 pm a complainant advised of juveniles climbing on the building roofs at the Little League Fields at 501 N. Pinet Street. The officer located the young juveniles and spoke to them about the dangers of their actions. At 4:45 pm a complainant reported missing personal checks had been forged and written on her bank account. The officer began an investigation.
Sunday, Feb. 28: At 2:47 pm officers were advised of a verbal argument occurring in the yard at 304 N. Chestnut St. Officers located the couple inside the residence. Patrick Michael Kennedy and Brittany Kay Smith, both of Jefferson, were arrested on outstanding JPD arrest warrants for domestic abuse assault-simple*.
Saturday, Feb. 27: At 12:32 pm a complainant reported a burglary had occurred at a residence in the 600 block of E. Adams St. Subjects appeared to have used a pry bar to attempt to open a window, but the window had broken. Nothing was located missing from the residence. The officer is investigating. At 3:45 pm JPD officers were assisted by the Greene County sheriff’s office and the Iowa State Patrol in executing a search warrant at 406-1/2 E. State St. Officers located stolen property from a reported burglary that occurred in Jefferson on 02/18/2016. Officers also located clothing used in another home burglary reported in Jefferson on 02/17/2016. Suspected narcotics and narcotic related items were also removed from the residence. Charges are pending the completion of the investigation. At 5:59 pm officers assisted a deputy with a one car property damage accident near S. Elm and 250th St.
Friday, Feb. 26: At 12:30 pm officers executed a search warrant at 404 S. Pinet St. Officers believed a protective order was being broken at the residence. The officers arrested Nicholas Anthony Balderas of Jefferson for violation of a protective order (simple misdemeanor) and Nicole Andrea Murphy of Jefferson for aiding and abetting in a violation of a protective order (simple misdemeanor)*.
Thursday, Feb. 25: At 121:17 am an officer performed a traffic stop of a vehicle in the 500 block of N. Elm St. During the stop the officer detected the strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. The officer’s investigation led to three juveniles being brought to the LEC for parents to be contacted. Jacob Thomas Monthei of Jefferson has been charged in juvenile court with possession of marijuana with intent to deliver (serious misdemeanor)*. Further juvenile charges for others involved are pending the completion of the investigation. At 3:18 pm a complainant reported a fight in progress in the 600 block of W. Adams St. The officer spoke with two juvenile females who were involved in a physical fight. Charges are pending in the matter at this time. At 7:02 pm JPD officers were assisted by the Greene County sheriff’s office and the Iowa State Patrol with the execution of a search warrant at 702 S. Wilson. Suspected narcotics and narcotic related items were seized during the search. Charges are pending as the investigation continues. At 7:57 pm a complainant reported a burglary to a residence in the 800 block of W. State St. The complainant reported numerous items missing from the residence. An investigation has begun.

Monday, Feb. 22: At 9:59 am Hy-Vee employees reported the theft of alcohol from the store. The officer obtained surveillance footage from the store. Charges are pending at this time.
Sunday, Feb. 21: At 10:28 am a complainant requested officers at a resident in the 1200 block of Westwood Drive for a domestic situation. The officer’s investigation led to the arrest of Preston Arthur Perin of Jefferson for two counts of domestic abuse assault- first offense (serious misdemeanor)*.

Friday, Feb. 19: At 2:51 am a Greene county deputy requested assistance from a Jefferson officer while conducting a consent search of a vehicle on Highway 30 near County Road P-33 (S Ave). At 7:58 am an officer investigated a backing accident in the 700 block of W. Washington St. Brenda Egeland, driving a 2009 Chrysler Town and Country van, backed from a private drive on the north side of the street. Stacy Stream, driving a 2004 Ford Expedition, backed from a private drive on the south side of the street at the same time. Neither driver saw the other backing into the street. The units backed into each other. Both units suffered rear end damages estimated at $1,500 each. Since both drivers were at fault, the officer did not issue citations. At 3:51 pm a complainant reported a burglary had occurred at a residence in the 200 block of N. Cedar St. The officer is investigating. At 5:48 pm a caller reported a trash can on fire at Hamilton’s Car Wash, located at 902 N. Vine St. A worker and the officer were able to put the fire out, which had started by someone depositing a cigarette in the garbage can. At 11:11 pm a JPD officer and Greene County deputy arrested Tyson Ruth and Joey Ann Godwin on outstanding arrest warrants out of Dallas County for burglary-third degree and theft-fourth degree.* They were taken to the LEC and later transported to Dallas County.
Thursday, Feb. 18: At 8:10 am while on patrol, an officer located a stray dog running freely in the 700 block of S. Locust St. The animal was placed in the animal holding facility. At 11:52 am a complainant reported a possible burglary that had occurred at a residence in the 200 block of N Cedar St. At 7:54 pm officers were requested at Doc’s Stadium for a reported assault that had occurred. The officers’ investigation led to the arrest of Nicholas Anthony Balderas of Jefferson on a charge of domestic abuse assault-second offense (serious misdemeanor)*. At 6 pm a complainant reported being harassed by a known male while he was working at Hy-Vee.
Wednesday, Feb. 17: At 11:50 am JPD officers and Greene County sheriff’s deputies assisted officers from Dallas and Guthrie Counties with the execution of a Dallas County search warrant at a residence in the 200 block of E. Perry St. The search warrant was to look for and recover stolen property from the two counties. No property was removed from the residence. At 12:30 pm Nichole Dennhardt reported a two vehicle property damage accident that had occurred at the intersection of W. Washington and N. Vine St. Both vehicle had left the scene before reporting the accident. The officer is investigating. At 12:43 pm a complainant reported a possible burglary occurring overnight at a residence in the 300 block of N. Chestnut St. The owner of the residence was not present to advise if anything is missing from the property. The officer is investigating.
Tuesday, Feb. 16: At 3:30 pm while patrolling in the 100 block of N Chestnut St an officer spotted a juvenile male for whom the officer knew there was an outstanding Greene County juvenile arrest warrant. The officer placed the juvenile in custody for the theft – fourth degree (serious)* warrant and transported him to the LEC. At 4:50 pm an officer arrested Toby Lynn Bishop on an outstanding Boone County arrest warrant for theft – third degree (aggravated)*. Bishop was transported to the LEC to be transported to Boone County. At 8:56 pm the Webster County sheriff’s office requested assistance from a JPD officer in locating an elderly male who was late returning home. The Webster County officials had “pinged” the male’s cell phone and learned he was at Wild Rose Casino. The officer made contact with the male. He advised he was fine, just not ready to go home yet. The officer advised Webster County of his findings.
Monday, Feb. 15: At 7:55 am an officer arrested Janice Leonard and Patrick Doyle of Jefferson on outstanding arrest warrants. The warrants were for theft – fifth degree*. The charges stem from an investigation initiated Dec. 14 of the use of water after the utility had been disconnected by city workers. At 10:24 am an officer investigated a two vehicle property damage accident at E. Clark and N. Chestnut St. George Bryant of Harcourt was northbound on Chestnut St driving a 1998 Dodge Dakota. Jack Orchard of Jefferson was eastbound on Clark St driving a 2003 Chevrolet S-10. The vehicles collided in the uncontrolled intersection. Each vehicle sustained an estimated $600 in damage. Bryant was cited for failure to yield to the vehicle on the right. At 10:05 pm a resident reported a deer had been struck and injured in the 1600 block of Westwood Drive. The officer dispatched the injured deer and removed it from the roadway.
Sunday, Feb. 14: At 12:21 am officers responded to burglary alarm in the 100 block of N. Locust St. At 12:25 am a complainant reported a possible theft of clothing at the laundromat at 301 W. Reed St. At 6:02 pm Michael Eastman of Jefferson reported an unwanted person at his residence in the 100 block of E. Clark St. An officer arrived on scene and removed her, and then arrested Eastman on an outstanding Carroll County arrest warrant for nonpayment of child support*. *** Sixteen snow ordinance parking citations were issued by officers.
Saturday, Feb. 13: At 2:41 pm an officer investigated a backing accident in the Dollar Genera parking lot. Corina Coleman of Jefferson was operating her 2002 Ford Explorer and backed into a 1999 Dodge Grand Caravan that was owned by Mercedes Ramirez of Jefferson. Both vehicles sustained $200 in damages. At 7:03 pm a complainant reported a possible burglary that took place at a residence in the 300 block of N. Chestnut St. An officer is investigating the report.
Friday, Feb. 12: At 12:06 pm a traffic stop in the 100 block of W. Monroe St resulted in Craig Presley, 55, of Jefferson being charged with driving while license revoked*. At 4 pm the JPD began a joint investigation with the Dallas County sheriff’s office and the Greene County sheriff’s office of several burglaries that have occurred in all three agencies’ jurisdictions.
Thursday, Feb. 11: At 11:30 am Steve Brown reported finding damage to his vehicle. Brown was unaware of how or when the damage occurred. Brown’s 2002 Cadillac Deville had an estimated $250 in damages to the left rear corner.
Wednesday, Feb. 10: At 9:30 am an officer took a theft complaint in the 100 block of E. Harrison St. A subject had left their vehicle momentarily and returned to find items missing from inside the vehicle. The officer is investigating. At 2:30 pm while on patrol an officer recognized a male driver who he knew did not have a valid driver’s license. The officer performed a traffic stop of the vehicle in the 600 block of S. Chestnut St. Jacob Eugene Day of Jefferson was arrested for driving while barred (aggravated misdemeanor)*. ****** Arrest warrants have been issued in a theft investigation that began Dec. 14. Warrants for theft-fifth degree (simple misdemeanor) have been issued for Patrick Douglas Doyle* and Janice Anne Leonard*, both of Jefferson. The investigation looked into water services being illegally turned back on and water usage after city crews had disconnected the utility.
Tuesday, Feb. 9: At An anonymous female reported a male juvenile appeared to be smoking cigarettes while waiting to be picked up by the school bus in the 800 Block of West Lincoln Way. At 2:05 pm staff at the Greene County Extension office reported a confused elderly female was at the location. They believed she lived in Grand Junction but was unsure how to get home. The female left the area before officers arrived. Officers are working to locate family members of the female to advise them of the situation. ******The officer’s investigation in the one vehicle accident at W. State and Vine St on Feb. 4 is complete. James Leon Cunningham of Jefferson has been cited for driving while license suspended. The officer believes a medical condition contributed to the accident.
Monday, Feb. 8: At 12:57 pm a complainant reported a registration plate stolen was stolen from a vehicle in the 300 block of S. Cedar St.

Saturday, Feb. 6: At 2:03 am an officer performed a traffic stop in the 200 block of W. State St with on a vehicle being driven with no headlights on. The officer’s investigation led to the arrest of Bonnie Mae Grunwald of Carroll for operating under the influence – first offense*. Grunwald was also cited for improper brake light. At 8:32 am an office arrested Heather Thelma Ott of Jefferson on an outstanding Greene County warrant for probation violation*. At 9:11 pm a complainant reported someone attempting to gain entry to a residence in the 500 block of N. Oak St. The officer arrived and located tracks in the snow coming and going from the residence. The officer is investigating.
Friday, Feb. 5: At 8:14 pm a complainant reported a possible violation of a protective order at a residence in the 600 block of S. Oak St. The officer is investigating.
Thursday, Feb. 5: At 4:31 pm officers investigated a one vehicle personal injury accident at the intersection of N. Vine and W. State St. Witnesses at the scene advised that a 2005 Toyota Echo, owned by Melissa Larson of Jefferson, was traveling westbound on State St. Witness advised the vehicle did not slow down as it drove through the posted stop sign at State and Vine St. Witnesses state the male driver was waving his hands in front of his face as the vehicle came through the intersection. The vehicle left the roadway and entered the yard at Complete Insurance and struck a tree. James Leon Cunningham of Jefferson was transported to the Greene County Medical Center by Greene County EMS for possible injuries. The Larson vehicle received a reported $5,000 in damages. The accident remains under investigation. At 10:15 pm a complainant reported a careless driver on Highway 30 near Mulberry St on the east edge of Jefferson. The caller provided an adequate description of the vehicle and the officer located it parked at West Central Coop. The officer made contact with the driver. The investigation led to the arrest of Ronnie Neal, 37 of Marshalltown for possession of methamphetamine (serious misdemeanor) and possession of drug paraphernalia (simple misdemeanor)*. Neal was also cited for operation without a valid license.
Wednesday, Feb. 3: At 11:10 am staff at Anamosa state penitentiary requested assistance from the JPD in investigating illegal contact from an inmate with a juvenile female in Jefferson. At 7:48 pm a resident reported a fight occurring between parties in the 400 block of S. Wilson. Both parties had left the area in vehicles before the arrival of the officers. ******One vehicle was towed and three citations were issued for snow emergency parking violations during this reporting period.
Tuesday, Feb. 2: At 2:29 am a complainant reported an identity theft. Subjects had fraudulently used her bank card information to make unauthorized purchases in Oklahoma. At 7:03 pm an officer assisted a lost motorist who was travelling to Lincoln, NE. The officer led the motorist to Sparky’s One Stop to wait out the storm. At 10:41 pm an officer assisted a motorist with mechanical problems on the Highway 4 overpass. They were able to start the vehicle and remove it from the overpass. *******Officers issued one citation for a snow emergency parking violation during this reporting period.
Monday, Feb. 1: At 8:21 am while on patrol an officer made contact with a male subject for whom he knew there were outstanding Greene County arrest warrants. The officer escorted the male to the LEC to be booked on the warrants. Chad Christopher Louk of Jefferson was booked on arrest warrants for domestic abuse assault – simple and criminal mischief – fifth degree*. The arrest warrants stemmed from an investigation that began on Jan. 17 after officers were called to a residence in the 100 block of W. Wilcox Way for a reported assault. Officers had been called to 104 West Wilcox Way for a reported assault. At 8:29 pm a complainant reported a burglary at an apartment in the 300 block of S. Wilson. A door had been forced open, but nothing had been removed from the apartment. The officer is investigating.
